Getting articles published within your own industry can seem challenging. But with a little research, understanding of the types of valuable content you can offer, plus someone who can create great content, you can get your company greater visibility that can potentially lead to additional leads and increased business!
1. First, take time to find the RIGHT publications to target. Check out your current industry publications and journals, particularly those who publish articles authored by other companies or experts in your field or those writers who cover products, services or topics similar to what you provide. Look online for their submission guidelines. And do your research! You don’t want to waste time contacting a magazine or annoying editors that are not going to entertain your offer. 2. Track down the right contacts. For the magazines you are interested in, reach out to get the contact information for the people you want to target. Look for editors, journalists or writers who cover topics like yours, and provide them with an interesting pitch to see if they will do a story or are interested in an article you can provide. Email your pitch, or even some sample titles to test the waters and see if they are open and/or interested in your content and topics. Create a clever title and then a few lines that explain the piece. Many “industry specific” publications are open to quality content, particularly if it provides value to their readers. 3. Create quality content! Identify topics that are of real value to potential readers, that provide timely advice, useful viewpoints or projections or even guidance on solving a problem. Be mindful of the overall “tone” of the piece, especially make sure it’s not too self-promoting. You want you or your company to come across as knowledgeable, helpful and someone with real perspective on a problem or solution. If the piece is too “sales focused”, chances are slim that it will be considered. With a little research, effort and solid writing, your content can be included in pertinent industry and business publications, opening the door for additional content down the road. And you can use your published materials across your own promotional channels lending further credibility to you and your product or service.
